Don’t forget Mothers Day

29 Mar

Mothering Sunday is less than a week away now, so if you’re still struggling to find gifts or cards why not try Buying Handmade and looking online at Folksy where you can find handmade quality items from independent UK designer makers (some of which will post orders worldwide).

The official Folksy blog lists lots of ideas for quality handmade Mothering Sunday gifts.

Alternative wrapping

Following on from yesterday’s Countdown to Christmas of 4 days to Christmas, I thought I would let you know about an alternative method of wrapping presents – furoshiki.  Furoshiki originates from Japan, and uses beautiful neck scarfs and knots to wrap a gift, instead of using paper, boxes, bags, and sticky tape.

I first came across the concept of furoshiki at a Lush shop (national chain of handmade cosmetics shops).

But after a browse on Folksy, I have found myfuroshiki‘s shop where they print and make some of their own fabrics for furoshiki wrapping and giving.

One of the best things about furoshiki is that you are giving two presents instead of just one, as the wrap can be used afterwards too as a little scarf, or used as a bag tie, or wall hanging… very eco friendly.

You can find out more about Myfuroshiki and ideas on how to use furoshiki by having a peek at their blog.

How gorgeous do these look?  But stop, you can’t eat them – amazingly they are actually sweetie soaps, and cupcake bath bombs!

Handmade by Bits N Bobs, even though you can’t eat them they are still suitable for Veggies, and the soaps are Vegan friendly too, as they don’t contain any animal products.

Great little stocking fillers – for young and old, just don’t let them take a bite!

For more stocking fillers handmade in the UK, take a look at Folksy.com.  (Even though everything available on Folksy is handmade in the UK, many shops sell worldwide so don’t miss out!)

I found these little gems in the Folksy Shop of Dormouse Studio, who has been working with stained glass for several years.

They were bought as gifts, but I may have to hold on to one of them for the tree!
