Illustrating Life

Introducing … Pikaland

I  have added a few new blogs and websites to my blogroll recently, and just thought I would properly introduce you to one of them – Pikaland.

This blog is all about illustration and art, but it features so much more than just pen and pencil illustrations.  They find and champion examples of any and every type of illustration you can think of – and more.  Previously I have seen work large and small, from illustrators who use paper folding, watercolours, wood carving, computer programmes or textiles to create their work.

There will probably be styles that you love and styles that you don’t, but if you are ever struggling for visual inspiration, try a look here

17 days to Christmas

8 Dec

I told you that at the Belton House Christmas Market I attended last month, I was buying handmade Christmas gifts, as well as selling some.

Well, I thought I would show you a few of my favourites over the next few days…

I thought these printed textiles by The Colegrave Printworks were lovely, and they had cute printed tshirts and fabric bags too.  All the prints beginning as original illustrations.

At the moment they don’t have a website, but as soon as they do, I will add a link.

I love illustration

Talking of illustration, I stumbled across this blog a while ago, and for anyone who is interested in an eclectic mix of music, fashion, art, and the environment, it is a must – posts are accentuated by illustrations from a range of artists and illustrators.  Take a look at Amelia’s Magazine.

Continuing with the Spanish theme, I just had to post these pics from the amazing hotel I stayed in Madrid.  This was the cafe/bar where you had breakfast, and I just love the illustrations on the wall, retro themed decor, and cake stands.  I would love to know who the wall drawing is by – do you know …?

A4 Draw

31 Mar

Wow, lucky me!  Literally through the luck of the draw, I managed to win the piece created by Will Holder!  I meant to post about this earlier, but better late than never …

It was a great concept – a competition draw to win one of 25 A4 sized drawings by various artists and students, including the well known Gemma Correll, Kate Forrester, and of course Will Holder.  Two of my faves included the cute birds by artist Amy Blackwell, and the meerkat by Ben Stanbury (one of the students that arranged the event). You can see all the items that were up for grabs on their A4 Draw blog.

The final year BA (Hons) Graphic Design students from South Essex College created this as a fund raising activity for putting on their degree shows.  (I think it was a genius idea – wish I’d thought of something like that for my show).

The tickets were only £4 available from their A4 Draw Folksy Shop (N.B. the competition has now closed).

However, if you want to keep up to date with their show progress take a look at their new One & A Dozen blog.
