ARCHITECTURE FROM NEW TO OLD

I said in an earlier blog that I would go back to Leicester some time – and I did!  I only had a couple of hours, so had a very quick glance round some shops.  I would still like to go back some time and explore some of the side streets and independent shops.. but thats for another day.

From sparkly new…

I’m not normally a fan of new building aesthetics or architecture, but the pattern on the John Lewis building at Highcross really does make a boring flat wall of glass … pretty!

to older…

If I got lost, I just needed to ask where the clock tower was, as it sits in the centre junction of the main shopping streets.

Market Harborough

to even older…

Ok, so it’s not in Leicester (its in nearby Market Harborough) but I had to post this – how quaint ‘n’ olde English is this?! (Dated 1614!)  A pretty market town, I found an amazing bakers with a Tea Shop attached, perfect for afternoon tea – homemade coffee meringue anyone?

DOUBLE WHAMMY EVENT WEEKEND

So, on Saturday I was in Leicester at Fabrika Independant Arts Centre, (a few doors down from Primark).  It’s an interesting building project – The Arts Organisation in Leicester is re-developing it at the moment – the room we were in, is to be a public Gallery space apparently.  Some parts of the building are still being painted and spruced up, but with a cafe there already, and plans for a monthly craft market, I think it’s somewhere to be put on the radar…  I am not familiar with Leicester, so I intend to go back some time to properly explore…

The event was organised by Wood Jewellery who works with an amazing range of naturally colourful woods – think much more than just ‘brown’.  I also met some lovely stallholders including Adelina Lucas who recycles scraps of fabric and plastic bags into attractive gifts and accessories, and Bee Designs who makes beautiful stationery, and whom was also at the craft event I did the next day – it’s a small world!

The next event will now be Saturday 6th March, in Leicester at the Fabrika Arts Centre (The Arts Organisation).  It is the first time Original Minnie has displayed in Leicester so its exciting!   Apparently Fabrika has its own coffee bar, which I’m sure I will take full advantage of to keep re-fueled!

It also means that weekend is going to be a double whammy with the Leicester event on Saturday and the Woodhall Spa event on Sunday – phew!  I’d better get cracking on my new designs so I have plenty of goodies to take!

For more info on either event, take a look at the Events page.
